Jersey Shores

Bob wanted to retrace some old roots, so we headed for the Jersey Shores.  He did his basic training for the army at Fort Dix, New Jersey and he remembers the Jersey Shores.

We started driving down to Cape May, which is the tip of New Jersey.  We stopped in Avalon Beach and took an early morning walk on the beach.

Did you know in New Jersey beaches are not free.  You have to buy a beach tag or badge to go to the beach.  We ask around the campground and found out tags are $25.00 a session if you buy before Mother's Day.  We are discovering why Chris Christie hasn't had to raise taxes.  Between paying for going to the beach and all the tolls for driving on bridges and highways, California could learn a few things.

Sand Dunes and large beach homes, mostly new in this area.

Wildwoods is a free beach and one that Bob remembered. This was like any beach community you know.  Lots of teens in bikinis and board shorts.

Stopped for lunch at Lucky Bones.  Never know what to expect.  This was exceptional.  I had a prime rib sandwich with provolone, mushrooms and caramelized onions.  Bob had a red fish sandwich, with a Cuban sauce. Delicious!
The name came from sailors who were very superstitious and would never head out fishing on a Friday.  They also carried lucky pieces, such as a crabs claw, which is where this restaurant got it's name.

Very cute inside.

Cape May was an old fashion beach town.  Many old restored beautiful beach homes.
Most turned into bed and breakfast.

Lastly, we headed to the lighthouse.  We went to Cape May Lighthouse. It is still and active lighthouse but with modern technology.

It was 199 steps to the top and Bob walked all the way up.  I waited on a bench. Great day at the beach.
