New Orleans Day One

Today about 2:00 pm. we drove into New Orleans.  We parked down by the Riverwalk, with plans to do some sightseeing and then catch an early dinner at The Court of Two Sisters.  As we walked to Riverwalk in front of the Hilton was this statute of Winston Churchill.  We were sure the significance but took a picture anyway.

We continued to Riverwalk, which is a shopping plaza on the Mississippi River. We walked through the mall and bought some pralines at Papa's Pralines.

In case you don't know and I didn't, Pralines are a candied pecan made with pecans, sugar, cream, butter, and vanilla.  Delicious!! We ate these as we sat at a table on the Mississippi River.

We continued toward Jackson Square and stopped to enjoy the fountain at the Spanish Plaza.

On January 8, 1815, Major General Andrew Jackson led a small, poorly equipped army to victory against 8,000 British troops at the Battle of New Orleans.  Jackson became a hero :(and later the seventh president of the United States.) After the battle this park was renamed Jackson Square in honor of Andrew Jackson.

On the top side of the square is the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis King of France is the oldest Catholic cathedral in continual use in the United States.

It reminded me of cathedrals I had seen in Rome.  Bob and I thought our friends Millie and Larry would really like seeing this cathedral.  We hope they have had the opportunity to see this beautiful cathedral or will in the future.

We headed down Saint Ann St. into the French Quarter.  The architecture is awesome.

Our next stop Court of the Two Sisters.

Well, we checked the menu out and decided everything looked good, except, dinner didn't start till 5:30 pm.   It was 4:15 pm.  Yea, we are blue hairs.  We decided we would walk around till 5:30 pm and then come back.  We walked down several blocks, window shopping in several souvenir store, art galleries and jewelry shops.  It was now 4:45 pm.  We both looked at each other and decided we were too hungry and our feet hurt too much to wait.  We headed toward the car and ate at the Doubletree's WOW restaurant on the way.  It was good but not the Court of the Two Sisters.  We decided it would be best for us to try to do the Jazz Buffet at the Court of the Two Sisters on another day.  It is between 9:00 am and 3:00.  Better timing for us.
