Acadia National Park

Our main destination this year was Maine and the furthest north we are going is Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.  We stopped at the Visitor's Center.  Saw the video about the park and decided we would take the loop drive and head up to Cadillac Island.

Our first stop was Frenchman's Bay, where is 1604, the explorer Samuel Champlain charted the bay and named the island "Mount Desert" for the bare topped mountains.

The Maine coast is very rocky, but Acadia has one sandy beach, Sand Beach. The weather was beautiful but the water on the Maine coast is very cold.  We took a picture and let the younger foolish teenagers jump in the waves.

We drove on and saw a sign for Otter Point.  I love Otter's so we parked and went for a hike to the point.  Beautiful coast line.

I told Bob if I walked all this way and there were no otter's I was not going to be happy, so he would not be happy either.

The weather was perfect for a hike.  Warm and a cool breeze. Did I mention the coast was rocky?

What a gorgeous day.  We say daily how blessed we are for the ability and health to live this lifestyle.

Pines, rocks, and water. What a beautiful site.

We continued to Otter Point, asking everyone we met coming from the other direction, if they had been to Otter Point and were there otters?  No one has seen an otter:(
But the walk was so awesome, I forgot about the otters.

We were beginning to get hungry and since we heard that there is only one restaurant in the park, we headed to Jordon Pond House.  We were told you could make reservations, but the line was always busy.  When we got to Jordon Pond House, the wait for lunch was about a half hour.  Mind you it is 2:00 in the afternoon.  We waited and walked around the gift store to waste some time.

Inside or outside dining, we took first available and ate inside.  You also could get tea with blueberry popovers. We needed more that tea, but popovers came with lunch too. We thought the popovers were great, but remember we were starving.

Lovely setting for a yummy lunch.

We never made it to Cadillac Mountain this trip.  Too much to see, but we are here for a week and we'll be back.
