Visit to the Vanderbilt's in Hyde Park

Our first stop in New York was at the Vanderbilt Mansion. This home is operated by the National Parks, so with our Senior Pass we got in free.
Front of the mansion.

This the back of the mansion.  It faces on the Hudson River and was considered the main entrance to the house.

Here are the view from the backyard. Most of the trees that are here now, were not here in Vanderbilt's time or they were much smaller. They had a yacht parked on the Hudson River.

The above picture is the sky light in the entry hall.

Dinning room always set for 18 guests.

Everything was hand carved.  This fireplace was done by German immigrants.

The Vanderbilt's had running water, hot and cold. And they built their own power plant for electricity.

Everyday a hundred vases of flowers were put together here.

Servants recreation room.  They played cards and listened to music.

Kitchen

Visitor Center. Vanderbilt used it for guests who came to hunt with Fredrick to change and shower before going to the main house.

Pretty fancy shower room.

Of course we ended our tour in the formal garden.

After our visit to the Vanderbilt's beautiful mansion, we stopped in Rhinebeck to have lunch at Matchbook Cafe. Great lunch.  Bob had an Italian Sausage Sandwich and I had a Homemade Tuna Sandwich with Tomato and Avocado.  Yummy.

That evening our campground was having a Pig Roast.  So we joined in, they provided the pig and fresh corn and every camper brought a potluck.

As you can see there wasn't much left. Delicious.
Busy day but fun, fun, fun!!!
